understand

some wordless quickening passes
closer to me than the wind, closer
than swooping phantoms of memory,
closer than the few hummed beats
that come and go. it wafts on,
towards the mountains i think.
it is both a feeling and an insight,
a moment of self-sight. it leaves
my lenses smudged and blurred,
fogged by the warmth of my face.
